3. Who were the first settlers in North America? How did they get here? Did these early settlers form important civilizations? Explain. Why have people migrated to, from, and within North America?

Think about the degree to which maize cultivation supported economic development and social diversification in Mexico and the American southwest. In the first column put the year the place was discovered. In the second column identify the name of the colony that would be created. In the third column name the country for which the explorer sailed. In the fourth column, place the name of the explorer. In the fifth column, give the reason for the development of this area or colony.

In answering the second part of this objective, there will be some overlap with the chart from objective four above. Make a list of inventions/discoveries that enabled exploration, and make a separate list of the causes of European exploration.
